A Long-Term Solution for Missing Teeth
Missing teeth affect more than appearance. They can change how you chew, speak, and feel about your smile over time. Dental implants offer a stable, long-term way to replace missing teeth and restore comfort and confidence.
At Airway Dentistry, dental implants are planned with long-term health in mind. Dr. Juana R. Cavinder, DDS, MPH, brings more than 30 years of clinical experience and a public health perspective to tooth replacement. Patients in Desert Hot Springs and nearby communities appreciate care that is explained clearly and planned thoughtfully, without pressure.
What Are Dental Implants?
Dental implants are a permanent tooth replacement option that mimics the structure of a natural tooth. A small titanium post is surgically placed into the jawbone, where it functions like a tooth root. Over time, the bone integrates with the implant, creating a strong foundation.
Each implant has three parts: the implant post, an abutment that connects the post to the tooth, and a custom crown that looks and functions like a natural tooth. Unlike dentures or bridges, implants do not rely on neighboring teeth for support. When properly cared for, they are designed to last for many years.
Why People Choose Dental Implants
Dental implants are chosen because they feel and function more like natural teeth. They allow patients to chew comfortably without worrying about movement or slipping. Many people also prefer implants because they do not require altering healthy adjacent teeth, as bridges do.
Implants help prevent bone loss in the jaw and support facial structure over time. They are also durable and often last longer than other tooth replacement options. For many patients, implants restore both function and confidence in everyday life.
The Dental Implant Process
The dental implant process begins with a consultation and evaluation. This includes reviewing oral health, bone levels, and overall health to determine candidacy. In some cases, a bone graft may be recommended to support the implant.
Once ready, the implant post is placed into the jawbone. A healing period of about three to six months allows the implant to fuse with the bone, a process called osseointegration. After healing, the abutment and custom crown are placed, completing the restoration. Most implant treatments are completed within three to six months.
